I am a recent subscriber to The Progressive. While I have enjoyed the articles so far, I am disappointed in the lack of attention paid to the issue of declining newspapers, as well as the media democracy movement. Newspapers have been downsizing significantly or shutting down completely in the last several decades. A recent report from the University of North Carolina titled "The Loss of Local News: What It Means for Communities" notes that almost 1,800 local newspapers have been lost since 2004. We cannot have a democracy without an informed electorate, starting at local issues.
