Steven Haskell, CPA

Steven Haskell, CPA, partner and co-founder of Irvine-based Haskell & White LLP, died Sept. 6. He was 53.

Haskell graduated Claremont McKenna College with a bachelor's degree in economics in 1974. A few months later, he began working at the regional office of Swenson & Clark, CPAs, the Newport Beach office, which became Haskell & White LLP in 1988.

Under Haskell's leadership, the firm grew from 10 employees to 70 and he served as managing partner for Haskell & White since its inception until July 2004.

From July 2004 until his death, Haskell served as director of special operations for the firm, responsible for coaching and mentoring firm members.

"We are saddened by the loss of a great mentor, partner and friend," says Wayne Pinnell, managing partner of the firm. "Everybody will miss Steve, but all that we have built here will be a reminder of his continuing impact on our lives."

Alexander Berger, CPA

Alexander Berger, CPA, a former president of the Silicon Valley/San Jose Chapter, died Sept. 14. He was 89.

Berger, founder of Berger/Lewis Accountancy Corp., one of the largest accounting corporations in Santa Clara County, was the second president of the San Jose Chapter, serving 1951-52.
