IN MEMORIAM

HONORABLE R. TERRENCE NEY

Terry Ney, the editor of the first five editions of this handbook, died in late 2014. His prominence as a lawyer and then as a jurist did not escape the notice of the General Assembly, which paid tribute to him in a joint resolution of both chambers. The following is largely taken from that resolution.

Terrence Ney earned a bachelor's degree from Harvard College and a law degree from the University of Texas. He practiced law for more than 30 years with Boothe, Prichard, & Dudley, a small firm that eventually joined McGuireWoods. Specializing in appellate law, he lectured on mechanics' liens, arbitration and award, the United States Courts of Appeals, and construction contracts and litigation. He appeared as counsel of record in thirty-two reported opinions of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the Supreme Court of Virginia.
