Like millions of other Americans, I was thrilled by the November election results. My enthusiasm was tempered quickly, however, by the nearly instantaneous statements by both future House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and DNC Chairman Howard Dean that impeachment was off the table.

This is a serious misreading of the temper of this nation. The votes cast were angry votes. They were a call for accountability. They were a call for justice. There are 650,000 dead Iraqi civilians--men, women, and children--and 3,000 dead American soldiers who also demand accountability.

Now is not the time for appeasement. It is understandable that Pelosi and Dean want to focus on constructive activity, considering the six long years of neglect by the do-nothing Republican Congress. They have apparently decided that these domestic issues are too important to allow a divisive, bitter impeachment process to go forward.
