After a career that included stints as a recording engineer, personal trainer and Japanese translator, Barbera Aimes was ready for something different. So she purchased the rights to a line of cardboard building blocks and launched a toy company called ImagiPLAY.

"The concept for the company is Earth-safe, child-safe, fair-trade toys," Aimes said.

In 2004, the company started making wooden toys, puzzles and play sets in Sri Lanka and China.
