Last November, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission released for public comment its Roadmap for the Potential Use of Financial Statements Prepared in Accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards by U.S. Issuers. This roadmap describes a number of milestones that, if achieved, could lead to the use of IFRS by larger United States issuers in their filings with the SEC, beginning in 2014.

Anticipating the impact of this roadmap on companies and their financial executives, FERF plans to publish a number of research publications that will provide practical guidance on IFRS implementation.

The first in this series of reports, IFRS and Privately Held Companies, released last December, was based on interviews of members of FEI's Committee on Private Companies (CPC), bankers and standard setters. Although not subject to the SEC's roadmap, members from private companies need to be aware of the pros and cons of IFRS adoption.
