IBEW plans to construct a union hall in Brooklyn Park.

The Minnesota chapter of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers wants to build a new union hall in Brooklyn Park that will accommodate all of the group's functions in phases.

The IBEW is proposing a 26,800-square-foot, one-story union hall to be constructed at 6700 Broadway Ave. W. The hall would replace the union chapter's longtime leased space at 312 Central Ave. SE in north Minneapolis, according to a Brooklyn Park city staff report.

The new building would allow the union to expand its offices and would give it more space. The union would initially move 16 employees to the building, leaving a portion of the office space unfinished. That space would be completed 2024 when the organization's benefits office moves into the building. About 12 employees would move into the building at that time.

About 10,000 square feet of event space will also be in the building. The building's parking lot will have 221 vehicle stalls.
