HPU alum Tom Gamble rises in 49ers organization.

Former High Point University baseball player Tom Gamble has risen to senior management in a different sport. Gamble was named Director of Player Personnel for the NFL's San Francisco 49ers in February. He was a member of the Panther pitching staff from 1984-87 and has worked in the NFL for over 20 years.

Gamble will now oversee both the college and pro personnel efforts of the 49ers, after having served as the team's Director of Pro Personnel since 2005.

As a member of the HPU baseball team. Gamble helped take the team from an 11-21 record in his freshman season to 31-15 as a sophomore in 1985. He posted a 1.66 ERA as a sophomore, still the fourth-best single-season mark in school history. Gamble earned All-Conference and All-District honors.

With a 4-3 record and 2.84 ERA in his senior season, Gable helped High Point to the 1987 Conference Carolinas title and his career record of 17 career complete games still stands.

Gamble enters his 24th NFL season and has an extensive resume which includes work in both college and pro personnel, contract negotiations and a stint in the coaching ranks. He is the product of a football family, as...
