"S.S. Option: raise tax cap. Increasing Social Security tax on wealthiest could raise billions" reads a four-column headline at the top of the front page of the Charleston Gazette. Even though eliminating the $95,000 cap on income subject to the Social Security tax could keep the system solvent for another 75 years, I have not seen such a headline in The New York Times or The Washington Post.
