With many students looking for work to bridge their finances or grow their professional skills, the personal-finance website WalletHub took a look at 2016's Best Cities for Summer Jobs. Analysts compared the 150 largest summer job markets in the U.S. The data set of 18 metrics ranges from "median income of part-time workers" to "availability of summer jobs" to "percentage of insured part-time workers."

The top 20 cities for summer jobs are, starting at No. 1, are Washington, D.C.; Scottsdale, Ariz.; San Francisco, Calif.; Orlando, Fla.; Reno, Nev.; Cincinnati, Ohio; Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; St. Louis, Mo.; Boise, Idaho; Pittsburgh, Pa.; Irvine, Calif.; Denver, Colo.; Minneapolis, Minn.; Grand Rapids, Mich.; Salt Lake City, Utah; Atlanta, Ga.; Plano, Texas; Seattle, Wash.; Miami, Fla.; and Little Rock, Ark.

Comparing the best and the worst found that:

* Sioux Falls, S.D, has the highest labor-force participation rate of the population aged 16 to 24 (74.28%); Irvine, Calif., the lowest (40.03%).
