Brenna Burns, 15, of Weaverville, N.C., took a turn with the Olympic torch for 0.2 miles of its 13,500-mile relay around the U.S. The destination: opening ceremonies of the Winter Games in Salt Lake City on February 8.

UPFRONT: What if the flame goes out?

BRENNA: I was really worried about that. When I was running, I kept on looking over at it. I heard they have the original flame in a car, in case of emergency. But when you're running with the wind and everything, it still doesn't go out.

Was there a lot of security?

There were police motorcycle escorts and police cars everywhere. It felt like a parade. My entire school came out.
