Thank you for the insightful focus on education in your December/January issue. Both Eleanor Bader's "My Students, the Police" and Lexi McMenamin's "Students on Strike" brought to light important issues in higher education.

Bader's "First-Person Singular" essay reminds us that there are many benefits to a liberal arts education, even for (or especially for) those who choose to pursue a career in law enforcement. A broad background in the humanities can give police "a better-developed ethical foundation on which to hook their badges," as Bader notes.
