Homeowners Seek Electronic Devices.

Nearly three-fourths of American adults are aware of home systems, and a majority are interested in owning products that use technology to manage a wide range of tasks, according to a survey of 1,000 randomly selected households by the Consumer Electronics Manufacturers Association, Arlington, Va. It found that a majority of those polled are interested in automated security features, such as lighting that comes on when someone approaches their residences (63%) or warns them when appliances are left on (55%).

Features that enhance comfort and energy efficiency, such as separate thermostats for each room and water heaters that automatically adjust themselves to save energy, attracted interest from more than 55% of the respondents. The entertainment features of home systems also struck...
