Consumers who are looking to express their patriotic spirit at home will soon find a variety of ways to display the colors of Old Glory. From sofas to tables to baskets to lamps, the flag's colors and stars-and-stripes motifs can be found on every sort of home furnishings imaginable.

"American consumers are feeling more patriotic than ever, and many of them will want to express that sentiment at home," indicates Jackie Hirschhaut, vice president of the American Furniture Manufacturers Association. "Plus, red, white, and blue is an upbeat and comforting palette that will work well in a variety of settings, from country to traditional to contemporary." Among the furnishings adopting a patriotic motif are the following:

* Drexel Heritage has unveiled upholstery to coordinate with its new American Tempo collection, featuring fabrics in red, white, and blue with squares, stripes, and checks in a quilt-like pattern.

* Lee Industries is offering a child's armchair with a blue denim seat complemented by peppermint red-and-white stripes on the sides.

* Shady Lady's American Anthem lamp has white-on-white stars and stripes on the shade. The red iron base is topped with a blue finial or a blue base with red finial.

* Dale Tiffany's stained glass lamp teams a proud eagle with the Stars and Stripes.

* Toyo has redesigned a popular porcelain dog in its accessory line to create its American Pride dog. Stars adorn the dog's blue body, which is atop a red and white base. A white ribbon around its neck says, "America's Pride, United We Stand."

* Palecek has put together a collection with corrugated metal flags for the wall, a wooden Uncle Sam, picnic baskets, flag tote bags...
