Don't toss those fruitcakes--yet! Wait until Jan. 7 to toss them around Manitou Springs.

The December mail is always loaded with the fruit of early Christmas postings by those people who must get a jump-start on the holiday.

So December is the month to give you this warning that your fruitcake shouldn't be tossed in December, before it can be tossed properly--slung, hurled, winged or bullet-passed--next month at the 11th annual Manitou Springs "Great Fruitcake Toss."

Leslie Lewis, director of the Manitou Springs Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau, who has worked with the chamber since the first toss, says she is seeking to hold the event at a football field in January because the catapults that were used in 2005 threw fruit and cake all over town.
