The Air Force legend is General Curtis Lemay. General Lemay is often more commonly remembered for his demanding leadership and being pivotal to success of strategic bombing in both the European and Pacific theaters during World War II. Lemay is also remembered as the father of Strategic Air Command. Before Lemay rose to be the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, he was selected to be the lead navigator on the mission to locate the Italian Ocean liner Rex.
