On July 28, about 1,200 demonstrators gathered at the Frank Ogawa Plaza to protest Alameda County's plans to expand its juvenile detention facility into what the protesters call a "Super Jail for Kids." The hip-hoppers demanded that the county instead use the $2.3 million intended for the youth facility to provide social services that could help young people stay out of jail.
