Jim Hightower's hopeful article ("What One Person Can Do," February issue) would have been even more encouraging if he publicized how powerful constituent voices can be, especially at statehouses, and how little time that strategy can take.

Most people don't realize that just a few phone calls or e-mails make a difference. Five or ten communications often seem like a huge community interest in a topic. Why? Because most residents don't relay their opinions to their elected officials.
