Improving Health Disparities in Alcohol Health
Services (NIAAA)
Scope: The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse
and Alcoholism seeks (R01) research project grant
applications for the Improving Health Disparities in
Alcohol Health Services announcement with a focus on
health disparities and health services.
Deadline: March 15, 2021.
Funds: $5 million total for up to seven awards.
Eligibility: Colleges and universities; for-prot
organizations, including small businesses; nonprot
organizations; state, local, special district, and Native
American tribal governments; and independent school
districts, among others.
Areas: NIAAA said research will include ve areas of
focus: access to treatment, making treatment more
appealing, costs, dissemination and implementation,
and health disparities. Applications are expected to
emphasize health disparities in addition to the other four
areas of emphasis.

Scope: The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive
and Kidney Diseases seeks (U34) planning cooperative
agreement applications for the High-Risk Multi-Center
Clinical Study Implementation Planning Cooperative
Agreements announcement.
Deadline: Letters of Intent, May 9, 2021; applications,
June 9, 2021.
Funds: The number of awards depends on
appropriations and the submission of a sufficient
number of quality applications.
Eligibility: Colleges and universities; for-prot
organizations, including small businesses; nonprot
organizations; state, local, special district, and Native
American tribal governments; and independent school
districts, among others.
Areas: NIDDK said examples of high-risk interventions
include: an intervention that has an unknown safety
prole or has substantial side effects; a complex or
invasive intervention, including diagnostic procedures;
a study involving complex assessment of multiple
outcomes, including the ascertainment of outcomes
using invasive research procedures; and pragmatic
trials proposing signicant changes to standard-of-care
practices, or signicant coordination with multiple care
providers and healthcare data systems, among others.
