Highlights of August AICPA Board of Directors' meeting.

Here are some of the more significant actions and events that took place at the AICPA Board of Directors' meeting Aug. 6-7:

* AICPA President and CEO Barry Helancon reviewed recent Institute accomplishments, including the success of continuing efforts to ensure that CPAs have greater mobility to work across state lines [now up to 45 states]. He also discussed AICPA participation in the Global Accounting Alliance, an organization of the world's leading accounting bodies.

* AICPA Washington office staff discussed the Institute's advocacy on numerous key tax policy issues, including tax strategy patents, Internal Revenue Code Section 7216, tax mobility and overall efforts on tax reform. They also provided an update on the regulatory outlook under President Obama and on developments related to the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.

* Board members were told that, in its 40th anniversary year, the AICPA Minority Initiatives Committee continues to award thousands of dollars in minority accounting scholarships, doctoral fellowships and other outreach programs. Its efforts also include programs such as the AICPA Accounting Scholars Leadership Workshop for undergraduate and graduate students.

* Staff from the AICPA Governmental Audit Quality Center discussed recent initiatives, including resources for members clarifying the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and its impact on single audits, as well as the...
