Healthcare industry plays a vital role in the betterment of society. In this context, the
hospitals are paying more attention for providing more pay and rewards to their
employees to improve the motivation level and patient-oriented behavior. The cur-
rent study investigates the effect of the rewards and core self-evaluation (CSE) on
employee motivation and their patient-oriented behavior (POB) in the healthcare sec-
tor A cross-sectional survey was conducted and data was collected from 226 nurses
of public sector hospitals of Pakistan through questionnaires. SPSS 23, used for
descriptive statistics and PLS-SEM 3 was used for analysis purpose. The results
reveal that the reward system, CSE, and employee motivation had an impact on POB.
However, the reward system non-significantly negatively affects POB and positively
affects employee motivation. Employee motivation positively mediates the relation-
ship between the reward system and POB. The CSE as moderate the relationship
between the reward system (RS) and employee motivation (EM) as well as moderate
the intervening effect of EM between the RS and POB.
1|INTRODUCTION
The guidelines for healthcare services are provided in accordance with
human observation and response. Due to the growing expectations
with the healthcare services, the frontline healthcare service providers
are confronted with challenges of quickly changing the working envi-
ronment. In this study, the rewards and motivation for the healthcare
service providers prompt to the patient-oriented behavior (POB). It
would have a positive effect, enhancing patient's general satisfaction
in the hospitals with improvement. Healthcare industry does a critical
enhancing patient's general satisfaction in the hospitals with improve-
ment. Healthcare industry does a critical role in any country; the infra-
structure of healthcare industry in Pakistan is very strong, which
consists of Rural Health Centers (RHC), Tehsil Headquarter Hospitals
(THQs), and Basic Health Units (BHU), Tertiary Care/Teaching hospi-
tals (THC) and District Headquarter Hospitals (DHQ). Healthcare
department provides preventive, primitive as well as therapeutic ser-
vices. The infrastructure of healthcare industry in According to
Glen (1998) nursing is an art, and it may genuinely express the value
of nursing care. The nurse and patient relationship have developed
through the execution of obligations, associated with special needs.
Indeed, Care is known as the attention to special needs.This job
requires special skills. These skills include the advancement of pas-
sionate and inspirational states that are reasonable to the
nursing work.
Nursing is the major part of Pakistan's healthcare industry, pres-
ented the frontline management of hospitals which directly deals with
patients. Initially, in Pakistan, the healthcare services were poorly
established, and the rate of employment in the healthcare industry
was near to ground. Since 1951, the Government has been concen-
trating on the advancement and upgrading of the health care facilities.
One of the most important steps is to increase the rate of funding to
Pakistan Nursing Council Clinics. The Nursing board (PNCC) plays a
crucial role to give excellent healthcare and nursing services to the
patients.
In Pakistan, the scenario for the reward system (RS) is not devel-
oped. Due to lack of motivational rewards for health care employees
of hospitals, patient centered behavior is affected. These situations
create demotivated employees due to which service-based climate of
hospitals is affected badly.
According to Janus (2010), in the healthcare services sector, HRM
faces many difficulties. Firstly, it searches for highly specialized
