Ruth Conniff asks ("Joe Biden's Progressive Presidency," June/July issue): Does Joe Biden believe in progressive goals, or is he just playing politics? Twenty-five years ago, Biden proposed work requirements for welfare recipients that were more severe than those proposed by Clinton. I think that answers the question. Conniff then comments that he is embracing progressive goals now, which is all that matters.
