Here's Where Your Taxes Go.

* The Defense Department's role in the U.S. government is to ensure national security, and paying taxes is how the American people contribute to this goal. And sometimes it's nice to get a reminder on what our taxes go toward, said Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment Dr. William LaPlante.

During a panel discussion hosted by the Council on Foreign Relations, LaPlante recalled an undersea warfare study he once worked on analyzing how to use unmanned underwater vehicles to protect undersea infrastructure.
