By promoting the profession's interests in federal elections and in the Congress, the AICPA advances the advocacy goals of the accounting profession. But advocacy is more than understanding the issues. To make a difference, you have to help elect pro-business candidates to the U.S. House and Senate who share the profession's views.

The AICPA's political action committee, the Effective Legislation Committee (ELC), receives personal contributions from AICPA members and in turn uses them to provide financial assistance to like-minded candidates for the U.S. Congress.
