* The White House nominated Rear Adm. James Downey, currently the Navy's program executive officer for aircraft carriers, to be appointed to the grade of vice admiral and become the commander of Naval Sea Systems Command.

The Army announced several new officer assignments. Brig. Gen. Michael Lalor will become the commander of Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command, while Maj. Gen Edmond Brown will become Army Futures Command's chief of staff.

The Defense Department announced Doug Beck as the new director for the Defense Innovation Unit. Beck was most recently a vice president at Apple.

Huntington Ingalls Industries named Julie Jarrell Gresham the new vice president and chief counsel of the company's Ingalls Shipbuilding division. She succeeds George Simmerman Jr., who retired on March 31 after 32 years with the company.

Alfonso Ramonet, president of General Dynamics European Land Systems, also retired at the end of March. Antonio Bueno, who previously served as the company's chief financial officer and vice president of finance and information technology, takes over his spot.

Former Navy chief information officer Aaron Weis has joined Google Public Sector as the managing director of technology. He will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of the company's technology strategy for the Google Cloud Platform.
