* Former Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. John E. Hyten has been appointed to the advisory board of NDIA's Emerging Technologies Institute.

"We're honored that Gen. Hyten has agreed to join ETI's board of advisors. His stewardship of the Joint Chiefs, his world-class leadership acumen and his experience as a driving force in America's space defense leadership adds even more depth and gravitas to ETI's mission," said the institute's executive director Dr. Mark Lewis.

The Navy announced several new flag officer assignments. Rear Adm.

Philip E. Sobeck will become the commander of Military Sealift Command, Rear Adm. Ronald A. Foy will become commander of Special Operations Command Africa, and Rear Adm. Casey J. Moton will become the program executive officer for aircraft carriers. In other Navy news, the service has renamed its Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser USS Chancellorsville to USS Robert Smalls. Smalls was a skilled sailor and statesman born into slavery in South Carolina in 1839.

Leidos has appointed the president of Rolls-Royce Defence Thomas Bell as its new chief executive officer. He will replace current chairman and CEO Roger Krone, who is retiring.

Lockheed Martin senior vice president of government affairs Christian Marrone has resigned. The company's vice president of legislative affairs Greg Walters was named as acting senior vice president.
