* National Defense magazine welcomes Mandy Mayfield as its new editorial assistant. A native Californian, Mayfield most recently worked as a reporter for the Washington Examiner.

Meanwhile at the Pentagon, Maj. Gen. Nina M. Armango was named director of space programs at the office of the assistant secretary of the Air Force for acquisition. Moving to the same office will be Maj. Gen. Patrick C. Higby, who is now Air Force director of information technology acquisition process development.

Gen. Ellen Pawlikowski retired as commander of Air Force Materiel Command in September. Days later, she was elected to the Raytheon board of directors.

BAE Systems named Guy Montminy president of its platforms and services sector. He has been with BAE for more than 30 years.
