Hejlik honored for contributions to special operations community.

The National Defense Industrial Association's Special Operations/ Low Intensity Conflict division presented retired Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Dennis J. Hejlik the R. Lynn Rylander Award in recognition of his lifelong and significant contributions to the nation, which included service in every major conflict from Vietnam to the present.

He culminated his career as the first commanding general of Marine Corps Special Operations Command.

Hejlik received the honor at the division's annual awards banquet on Jan. 28 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C. The award is named for R.
