A Danish company--named Nextlink.to--is marketing a new kind of radio headset for SWAT, fire, hazardous material and special operations units. It also is available for gas and petroleum workers and others who operate in an explosive environment.

The headset, called Invisio, is small enough to fit in the user's ear, said Nextlink to spokesperson Bill Pegler.

Both the microphone and receiver of the headset are incorporated into an earmold, allowing it to accommodate the facemask of a self-contained breathing apparatus, he said.

The device uses a new kind of microphone called a "bone mic," which has a transmission clarity comparable to boom microphones, according to Pegler.
