This novel is definitely for the more mature reader--the subject matter is emotionally challenging, but high school readers who enjoy psychological thrillers will appreciate it. July and her stepmother and her sister have recently moved to a small town in British Columbia, and July is facing the normal teenage anxiety about going to a new school and having to make new friends.
