Philadelphia and Harrisburg Chapters: scholarship presentations advance TEI's social responsibility.

The Philadelphia and Harrisburg Chapters have awarded their 2011-2012 year scholarships. The two chapters pooled their resources, as they have done in the past few years, in an effort to reach more candidates with larger scholarships.

This year six outstanding candidates were selected from local universities. A seventh candidate, to be chosen from Temple University, will be announced in the spring. To be eligible for scholarship consideration, a student has to be a junior or senior Accounting or Business major considering a career in tax. In addition, the candidate must maintain a 3.0 GPA and demonstrate significant accomplishments such as Accounting Honor Society membership or Awards. Concurrent work-study or work in support of their college completion are pluses.

Following is a list of the scholarship winners, their schools, and significant accomplishments:

SIGNIFICANT RECIPIENT SCHOOL ACCOMPLISHMENTS Irina Khoury Drexel University Multiple internships (KPMG, etc.) Michael O'Donnell West Chester Univ. Working full time while in school Rebecca Rachlin St. Joseph's Univ. Participation in multiple charities Joseph Kirkwood Widener Univ. Honors society, numerous awards Patricia Canellas Villanova Univ. Honors society, numerous awards David Schuler LaSalle University VITA volunteer, working while in school The chapters' leaders were very impressed with the selected candidates, and are honored to have made these awards to them and to have the opportunity to support them as they initiate their careers.
