Here are some of the more significant actions and events that took place at the governing Council meeting Oct. 24-25:

* Leslie A. Murphy of Michigan was elected as chair of the AICPA Board of Directors for 2005-2006 and Jimmy Williamson of Alabama as vice chairman.

* Council members approved a framework authorizing the AICPA Board of Directors to work with the public company auditing profession and others to implement a new approach to better address public policy issues in the public interest for U.S. audit firms registered with the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board. The new framework is not expected to be fully completed and implemented until next spring.

* Updates were provided on various programs and services, including CPA2Biz achieving profitability and the three specialty credentials closing in on their financial and participatory targets.
