Happenings at Board of Directors' April meeting.

Following are some of the more significant actions and events that took place at the AICPA Board of Directors' meeting Apr. 20-21:

* Board members were informed that the AICPA has become part of a new international group, the Global Accounting Alliance. The GAA's focus is to work with key regulators as they address international issues and jointly develop positions for more effective advocacy to the International Federation of Accountants.

* Regarding private company financial reporting, the AICPA continues to work with the Financial Accounting Standards Board to issue an exposure draft. The proposal aims to enhance the accounting standards-setting process related to for-profit, private entities.

* An update on the Uniform CPA Examination included data showing volume is trending up significantly and meeting expectations. The computerized test also delivered impressive ratings, such as a 99.9% success rate (launchings).

* The National Accreditation Commission reported on the progress of the three AICPA credential programs (Personal Financial Specialist, Accredited in Business Valuation, Certified Information Technology Professional) to meet their goals. Notably, a shorter application is credited with helping the PFS credential meet its credential-holder target.

* A resolution was approved to recommend to Council that the Peer Review Board be permitted to have public members (i.e., non-CPAs). At press time, Council was considering...
