AS EDITOR-IN-CHIEF, I hear a lot of whispers. This company is losing employees by the dozen. That company can't fill the positions they need to hire.

But one of the things I hear most often is: half my team doesn't work at all, and the other half makes up for the difference.

I can't back it up--there's no statistic that proves the apathy of our peers. Still, I hear it so often (and have experienced it so routinely) that I wonder whether the problem is so pervasive that all employees know it, and somehow the managers don't.

Is there a secret world in which half the workforce idles the day away, doing the bare minimum to pull in a salary and earn healthcare benefits? Are their harder-working counterparts...
