H-P's Langdon Appointed to Top IRS Post.

Making good on his promise to attract high-caliber corporate talent to the Internal Revenue Service, Commissioner Charles Rossotti has announced that a former president of TEI will serve as one of the agency's four division commissioners. Larry R. Langdon, who served as the Institute's 1986-1987 president and announced his retirement as Hewlett-Packard's Vice President-Tax, Licensing, and Customs earlier this year, will become the Commissioner of the IRS's Large and Mid-Size Business Operating Division in December. (Practically all companies represented in TEI's membership will be served by this division.) Langdon's deputy will be Deborah M. Nolan, Connecticut-Rhode Island District Director, who currently heads the IRS reorganization design team that is charged with refining and implementing the design of the new corporate division. In announcing the appointment of Langdon and No]an, IRS Commissioner Rossotti said, "Larry and Deborah will bring a unique blend of leadership skills, tax expertise, and business experience to these key positions."

Larry Langdon joined TEI in 1976, and for 20-plus years, he has been an active member of two chapters: San Francisco, where he served as Treasurer and Secretary, and Santa Clara Valley, where he was a founder and served as Vice President and President. Mr. Langdon was also extraordinarily active at the national level, serving as chair of the International Tax Committee, as well as chair of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and U.S. Possessions Subcommittee. In 1985, he was elected Institute Treasurer and eventually rose to become Institute President in 1988.
