H Clay Storer beams when he looks at photos of his 2 1/2 year-old daughter, Elizabeth, scattered throughout his LoDo loft office. He even has her smiling face scanned in as wallpaper on his computer screen.

The president of Broadband Solutions Inc. smiles nearly as broadly when he talks about the company he began building last year, which enters its toddler stage this year with new financial backing, solid products, new faces and expanded offices.

"When we started Oct. 18, 1999, we had 2,500 square feet of office space and five people working here," said Storer. "Today, we have 30 people, 10,000 square feet, and $1 million in sales at an annualized rate."

Storer has established Broadband Solutions as an Integrated Communications Provider offering one-stop shopping for everything from digital subscriber lines, internet access, e-mail, Web site hosting and design, and video conferencing to voice and data systems.

"It's been an evolutionary thing," said Storer, who has 13 years of experience in the telecom industry. "It's-the result of a series of events that occur over time and what you do when you become dissatisfied with the status quo."

In Storer's case it was stints at Midcom Communications, Allnet Communications, and Qwest Communications where he was regional director of wholesale operations, that gave him the impetus to start his own business.

"After being at Qwest, I really wanted to do my own thing. I knew I didn't want to be part of the establishment," said Storer, who enjoys going up against the big guys. "I always want to see myself as an underdog. That's what...
