A primary school teacher and the relatives of a student will re-appear in court on February 10 after they were granted bail on several charges arising from a brawl at the school last week.
The teacher at the St. Agnes Primary School teacher, Tiffany Hinds, who was charged with assault and breaching the peace, was released on GUY$20,000 (One Guyana dollar=US$0.004 cents), while the parents, Soyuni Gardner and Sherwin Dalrymple and the student's aunt, Candace Peters, were also realised on combined total of GUY$90,000 bail.
The mother was charged with damage to property and assault causing actual bodily harm and released on GUY$50,000, while the father, who was charged with assault and breaching the peace was granted GUY$20,000 bail.
The aunt charged with damage to property and assault was granted GUY$20,000 bail.
The prosecutor told the Court that a strong message had to be sent to the public about the manner in which issues between parents and teachers are addressed.
The four appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates' Court on Monday before Acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus and pleaded not guilty.
