The Business Law Brief is proud to bring you our Spring/Summer Issue, the final issue of Volume 6. This issue we introduce a
new section, Business in Brief, designed to provide essays and shorter insights for practitioners. In the first Business in Brief section
we have three great pieces: the keynote address from our inaugural symposium by Michael Silva, an essay from Villanova Professor Joy
Sabino Mullane and an essay from Washington College of Law Professor Kenneth Anderson. Professor Mullane’s article tackles execu-
tive compensation, and the other articles examine the financial crisis from different perspectives and demonstrate that it is imperative
for lawyers to understand the very human elements of the crisis as the response is still unfolding.
This issue also features great articles discussing the leading issues of today with an emphasis on the rising importance of Wash-
ington, D.C. as a center of business. In Washington, important regulatory decisions are being made daily and precedential litigation is
being initiated to stabilize the financial sector and provide a solid recovery built on correcting the mistakes of the past.
The Brief is a Washington business law publication and that provides us with enormous opportunities to work with and learn
from decision makers. As Washington’s importance as a financial center has grown we are committed to trying to grow the Brief to
better serve our readers.
With that goal in mind I am proud to announce the creation of the American University Business Law Review, the first general
business law review in Washington, D.C. The Review will start publishing in 2011 and provide the in-depth scholarly examination
of business law issues provided by a law review. We remain committed to providing our readers with pieces geared to the practicing
lawyer and will work to make www.businesslawbrief.com a center of useful information for our subscribers. We have started on a case
bank of current leading business cases and will still be publishing student pieces and the concise articles that have made the Brief one
of the most widely-circulated student-run legal publications in the country.
I am enormously proud of what the Brief has accomplished in its sixth year of existence. We are mindful of our role as a 21st
Century legal publication and worked to create a full spectrum of scholarly engagement beyond our magazine, creating a vibrant web-
site and hosting the first-ever all day business symposium at Washington College of Law (described within). None of this would have
possible without the tireless work of the Volume 6 Executive Board. The issue you are holding right now is the product of tireless work
by our Executive Editor Charlie Gourlis, Executive Articles Editor Kaveh Miremadi and our dynamic Articles Editors Mike Poelman,
Eloy Peral and Angela Winters. Managing Editor Jessica Deihl was invaluable in running the staff and contributing leadership in all
aspects of our organization. Our symposium could not have been the success it was without the leadership of Symposium Editor Ben
Massarsky. Business Editor Scott Yoo developed the website from the ground up, creating what we hope is a legacy of this Executive
Board for years to come.
Although with this issue our work may be done, the Brief is continuing with new initiatives and projects that grow ever more
ambitious with our successes. We viewed the selection our new board one of our most important jobs and I am confident we did a great
job. You will get an introduction to our incoming Editor-In-Chief, Alexis Early, as she is our featured student author. I am confident
this board will make Volume 7, the last of the Brief in its current form, the best yet.
Sincerely,
David Wiseman
