Greenville's gig economy giving some of its delivery drivers a little bit more relief at the pump.

Bite Squad, a local on-demand food delivery service, has made its gas discount program pilot permanent as gas prices surge to more than $4.60 in the city, according to June 15 data from Gas Buddy.

The initiative, which soft launched in March, gives its drivers 5% off gas at a number of major stations, according to a news release. Bite Squad's GasCard is located on its driver app.

"We talk with our drivers every day, and they tell us the help with paying for gas is essential," Chris Barnes, director of Bite Squad's driver experience, said in the news release. "We're glad we can make our GasCard permanent while others are ending their assistance programs."
