A Greenville company has been recognized for solving something wicked.

Fast Company awards companies and innovators each year for "anything that has the potential to affect true systems change or solve wicked problems" with a list of the year's "World Changing Ideas."

For its 2020 line-up, the publication named Softbox, a Greenville-based pharmaceutical and cold chain logistics packaging provider, a finalist for the company's paper-based, temperature-controlled parcel shipper that is 100% curbside recyclable.

The biodegradable technology, called Tempcell ECO, integrates corrugated cardboard with plastic-free insulation that helps preserve chilled temperatures, such as in traditional expanded polystyrene shippers, according to a news release.

The boxes are available in four, flat-packed sizes, and custom sizes are available on request. A patent is currently pending for Softbox's insulation design, called Thermaflute.
