Green Bay attorney R. George Burnett has been elected to serve as the State Bar of Wisconsin's next president-elect. The State Bar announced Burnett's 3,056-2,860 victory over Oshkosh attorney John E. Bermingham.
Burnett, a partner of the firm Liebmann, Conway, Olejniczak & Jerry S.C., will assume his role as president-elect July 1. At that point, President-elect Patricia Ballman will succeed Gerald Mowris as State Bar president.
"It's a tremendous honor," Burnett said during a telephone interview Monday. "The immensity of the responsibility never quite hits you until you actually receive the results of this election."
