Great Lakes Bay Watershed Education
and Training Program (DOC)
Scope: The Commerce Department’s National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Administration seeks applications for
the FY2021 Great Lakes Bay Watershed Education and
Training (B-WET) Program to support existing, high-
quality environmental education programs; foster the
growth of new, innovative programs; and encourage
capacity building and partnership development for
environmental and place-based education programs
throughout the entire Great Lakes watershed.
Deadline: Aug. 21, 2020.
Funds: $850,000 for up to 17 awards ranging from
$30,000 to $80,000.
Eligibility: K–12 public and independent schools and
school systems; colleges and universities; nonprot
organizations; interstate agencies; and state, local and
Native American tribal governments.
Areas: DOC said successful projects provide
Meaningful Watershed Educational Experiences
(MWEEs) for students and related professional
development for teachers, while advancing regional
Great Lakes watershed education priorities. MWEEs
are multistage activities that include learning both
outdoors and in the classroom, and that aim to increase
the environmental literacy of all participants. Teachers
should support students to investigate topics both locally
and globally that are of interest to them, learn they
have control over the outcome of environmental issues,
identify actions available to address these issues and
understand the value of those actions.

Saltonstall-Kennedy Competition (DOC)
Scope: The Commerce Department’s National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Administration seeks applications
for the FY2021 Saltonstall-Kennedy Competition
announcement for sheries research and development
projects addressing aspects of U.S. sheries.
Deadline: Pre-proposals, Aug. 7, 2020.
Funds: $10 million for up to 30 awards ranging from
$25,000 to $300,000. The maximum project period is
two years.
Eligibility: Qualied individuals.
Areas: DOC said sheries’ aspects include but are
not limited to harvesting, processing, marketing
and associated business infrastructures. Proposals
submitted to this competition must address at least
one of the following priorities: promotion, development
and marketing or science or technology that promotes
sustainable U.S. seafood production and harvesting.

Metals-based Additive Manufacturing Grant
Program (DOC)
Scope: The Commerce Department’s National Institute
of Standards and Technology seeks applications for the
Metals-based Additive Manufacturing Grant Program
announcement to support signicant measurement
science research in addressing barriers to widespread
adoption of metals-based additive manufacturing.
Deadline: Aug. 6, 2020.
Funds: Up to ve awards with a maximum of $1 million
per award. Total funds available are $5 million, with a
maximum project performance period of two years.
Eligibility: Unrestricted, except for federal agencies.
Areas: DOC said barriers include: feedstock, machine
and process characterization; real-time process
monitoring and control; increasing process optimization
and throughput; rapid qualication methodologies for
processes and parts via characterization of surface
quality, part accuracy, material properties and model-
based approaches; and computational requirements for
systems integration.

Implementation of the U.S. Integrated Ocean
Observing System (DOC)
Scope: The Commerce Department’s National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Administration seeks applications
for the FY2021 Implementation of the U.S. Integrated
Ocean Observing System (IOOS) announcement.
IOOS is a national and regional partnership working to
produce, integrate and communicate high-quality ocean,
coastal and Great Lakes data that meets the safety,
economic and stewardship needs of the nation.
Deadline: Dec. 31, 2020.
Funds: For Topic Area 1, up to $6 million per proposal
per year, for up to ve years; for Topic Area 2, up to
$300,000 per year, for up to three years.
Eligibility: Colleges and universities; nonprot
organizations; and state, local and Native American
tribal governments; among others.
Areas: DOC is requesting proposals for coordinated
regional efforts that further IOOS in two topic areas:
Implementation and Development of Regional
Coastal Ocean Observing Systems (Topic Area 1)
and Advancing the National Data Management and
Cyberinfrastructure System Architecture (Topic Area 2).
