Funding supports solar
real-time grid integration
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has
announced $25 million in funding through the
Enabling Extreme Real-Time Grid Integration
of Solar Energy (ENERGISE) program to help
software developers, solar companies and
utilities accelerate the integration of solar
energy into the grid.
“Our ongoing grid modernization work will help
accelerate the widespread adoption of the clean
energy resources that will dene our low-carbon
future. This funding will help that mission by
supporting industry partners working to integrate,
store, and deploy solar energy throughout our
electric grid,” said Lynn Orr, Energy Department
Under Secretary for Science and Energy, in
a statement. “In doing so, we hope to drive
down costs and encourage even more American
homeowners and businesses to install solar
systems.”
According to the funding opportunity, the
program has two topic areas:
• Topic Area 1—Near-term projects will develop
commercially-ready, scalable distribution system
planning and real-time grid operation solutions
compatible with existing grid infrastructure to
enable the addition of solar at 50% of the peak
distribution load by 2020.
• Topic Area 2—Projects that tackle long-term
challenges will develop transformative and highly
scalable technologies compatible with advanced
grid infrastructure to enable solar at 100% of the
peak distribution load by 2030.
Concept papers are due June 17, 2016.
Proposals are due Aug. 26, 2016.
