$2.3M available for NSF
LTER oce applications
The National Science Foundation (NSF) has
announced $3.2 million in funding for a Long
Term Ecological Research (LTER) National
Communications Ofce. The NSF said the
successful applicant will coordinate research,
education and outreach programs across the
current 25 LTER projects.
According to the announcement, the LTER
National Communications Ofce goals will include:
•  Fostering communication and collaboration
across all projects.
•  Fostering the development of strategic plans
and future LTER visioning.
•  Promoting the dissemination of information
and resources among projects and to additional
stakeholder communities, including outreach
to local, regional, national and international
audiences of scientists, educators, students,
landowners, policymakers and the general public.
•  Identifying opportunities to leverage
resources.
•  Fostering synthesis activities across research
communities using a variety of means that could
include small workshops, larger working groups or
postdoctoral research initiatives.
•  Serving as the liaison among LTER and other
scientic groups or organizations as well as NSF,
among other activities.
U.S.-based colleges and universities and
nonprot organizations are eligible to apply for
one award of up to $800,000 per year, for a project
period of up to four years, NSF said, depending on
the availability of funds.

Literature Fellowships: Prose (NEH)
Scope: The National Endowment for the Humanities
seeks applications for FY2016 Literature Fellowships:
Prose that enable recipients to set aside time
for writing, research, travel and general career
advancement.
Deadline: March 11, 2015.
Funds: Awards of up to $25,000. A match is not
required.
Eligibility: Qualified individuals.
Areas: NEH said for FY2016, fellowships in fiction and
creative nonfiction are available.
Tip: Fellowships in poetry will be offered in FY2017, and
guidelines will be available in the fall of 2015.

Institutes for Advanced Topics in the Digital
Humanities (NEH)
Scope: The National Endowment for the Humanities
seeks applications to increase the number of humanities
scholars using digital technology in their research and
to broadly disseminate knowledge about advanced
technology tools and methodologies relevant to the
humanities.
Deadline: March 10, 2015.
Funds: Awards are from $50,000 to a maximum of
$250,000 and range one to three years.
Eligibility: Colleges and universities; nonprofit
organizations; and state, local, special district and Native
American tribal governments.
Areas: NEH said topics and areas to be addressed may
include but are not limited to: applications of the Text
Encoding Initiative; electronic editing and publishing;
scholarly communication and publishing; e-literature; and
textual analysis and text mining.
