EPSCoR Research Fellows
announcement released
The National Science Foundation (NSF) recently
released the EPSCoR Research Infrastructure
Improvement Track 4: EPSCoR Research
Fellows (RII Track-4) announcement to provide
opportunities for nontenured investigators to
develop their individual research potential through
extended collaborative visits to the nation’s premier
private, governmental or academic research
centers.
According to the announcement, through these
visits, the EPSCoR Research Fellows will be able to:
• learn new techniques;
• develop new collaborations or advance existing
partnerships;
• benet from access to unique equipment and
facilities; and/or
• shift their research toward potentially
transformative new directions.
In FY2018, NSF seeks proposals from colleges
and universities in the following RII-eligible
EPSCoR jurisdictions: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas,
Delaware, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky,
Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska,
Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North
Dakota, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island,
South Carolina, South Dakota, Vermont, U.S. Virgin
Islands, West Virginia and Wyoming.
NSF said it expects $6 million to be available for
up to 20 awards. Funding may not exceed $300,000
over a two-year period, and may only be used to
cover direct costs, with restrictions: salary for the
Principal Investigator (PI) and one additional
trainee-level researcher (typically a graduate
student or postdoctoral fellow); expenses for the
PI and one trainee-level researcher to travel to the
host site; and other fellowship-related expenses for
travel and materials and supplies.
The deadline to submit an application is March
13, 2018.

Cultural Grants Program (DOS)
Scope: The State Department’s U.S. Embassy
Slovenia seeks applications for the Cultural Grants
Program to encourage and promote cultural and artistic
cooperation, collaboration and exchange between the
United States and Slovenia.
Deadline: March 1, 2018.
Funds: $100,000 total for up to 50 awards of up to
$10,000.
Eligibility: Nonprofit organizations and qualified
individuals.
Areas: DOS said projects should: promote the values
and culture of American society; present American
history, society, art or other culture to Slovenian
audiences; and/or promote cultural cooperation
between Slovenia and the United States.

Public Diplomacy Small Grants Program—
Education and Culture (DOS)
Scope: The State Department’s U.S. Embassy
Ukraine seeks applications for the Ukraine: U.S. Public
Diplomacy Small Grants Program—Education and
Culture to support projects in education and culture.
Deadline: June 15, 2018.
Funds: $300,000 total for individual grants of up to
$8,000 and up to $24,000 for organizations.
Eligibility: Ukrainian and U.S. individuals and
registered nonprofit, nongovernmental organizations.
Areas: DOS said education themes may include but are
not limited to: lectures and roundtables by U.S. experts
on curricula and administration and projects that support
implementation of Ukrainian educational reforms. Cultural
themes may include but are not limited to: projects in
performing and visual arts, such as music, dance, theater,
literature, film, photography and video; and projects
for gallery-style exhibitions of paintings, sculptures,
photography, artifacts, cartoons or other similar works.
