In keeping with the AICPA's commitment to help members achieve the highest professional standards in auditing, the third audit quality center for CPA firms has launched. The Governmental Audit Quality Center is a firm-based, voluntary membership center designed to assist CPAs as they tackle the challenges of performing quality audits in this unique and complex area.

Governmental audits include all audit and attestation engagements performed under Government Auditing Standards of federal, state or local governments; not-for-profit organizations; and certain for-profit organizations. The center's primary purpose is to promote the importance of quality governmental audits and the value of such audits to purchasers of governmental audit services. Its charges include:

* Serving as a comprehensive resource provider on governmental audits for member firms.

* Creating a community of firms that demonstrates a commitment to governmental audit quality.

* Providing center members with an online forum tool for sharing best practices.
