PositionMilitary officer assignments and nominations - Brief Article

Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld has announced that the president is nominating Army Maj. Gen. Burwell B. Bell III for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general with assignment as commanding general, III Corps and Fort Hood, Texas. Bell currently is serving as commanding general, U.S. Army Armor Center and Fort Knox, Ky.

The president also has nominated Navy Vice Adm. Gordon S. Holder for appointment to the grade of vice admiral with assignment as director for logistics, J4, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Pentagon, Washington, D.C. Holder now serves as commander, Military Sealift Command, Washington, D.C.

Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Vern E. Clark announced the following assignments:

Navy Rear Adm. (Lower Half) Richard A. Mayo is being assigned as fleet surgeon for the commander in chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet, and command surgeon, U.S. Pacific Command, Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii. Mayo presently is serving as deputy director for logistics, medical readiness, J4, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Washington, D.C.

Navy Rear Adm. (Lower Half, Selectee) John M. Mateczun is being assigned as deputy director for logistics, medical readiness, J4, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Washington, D.C. Mateczun currently is serving as assistant chief for health care operations, BUMED, Washington, D.C.

Navy Rear Adm. Alberto Diaz Jr., is being assigned as assistant chief for education, training and personnel, MED-05, BUMED, Washington, D.C. Diaz now serves as commander, Naval Medical...
