They may not be the Rockies, but western North Carolina's mountains attract their share of trout anglers, to the tune of $383 million in economic output in 2014. A new study commissioned by the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission shows the state may have underestimated the impact of trout fishing the last time it took a look at the numbers, in 2008.
