PROCOMM ALASKA delivers cutting-edge technology to state.

Communicating across Alaska has always been a challenge, yet with the advent of cell phones, two-way radios and satellite technology, the ability to reach across the miles has become less difficult. ProComm Alaska, now in its first year of business, is working to bring the state, and the world, a little closer through the use of even more cutting-edge technologies.

"There are a lot of new technologies that Alaska has not taken advantage of yet," explained Linda Peters, co-owner and chief administrative officer of ProComm, the largest Motorola dealer in Alaska. "We see our business as an opportunity to introduce new technologies to the state, and to expand wireless network systems available to businesses."

In October of 2000, Peters and her husband, Gary, purchased the radio frequency division of Piqniq Management Corp., a subsidiary of Arctic Slope Regional Corp. "We offer the full line of Motorola wireless communication products, except cellular," explained Linda Peters. The company focuses primarily on business-to-business sales and service. The number two dealer of Motorola products in the western region, the company was chosen by Motorola to handle its top-of-the-line products.

"Motorola evaluated its dealers and selected 37 internationally to become radio system specialists-people trained to design, install and maintain their highest-tiered products," explained Peters. "We are very proud that we are one of four companies chosen in the western U.S., and are also the second highest Motorola dealer in the region for sales."

ProComm offers more than 4,000 different individual products to business customers, ranging from repeater systems, featuring 150 different components, to two-way radios. They serve the entire state, with the exception of Juneau, where there is another Motorola dealer. From offices located in Anchorage, Wasilla and Fairbanks, Pro Comm serves a variety of customers, including state government, municipalities, boroughs and individual businesses. "We work with everyone from Willow's Volunteer Fire Department to larger agencies, like the...
