New software from Global Software Inc. provides controllers and CFOs with an instant, accurate picture of a company's financial anatomy at any time, using nothing more complicated than a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet on a laptop computer. The software, Global Software says, "achieves the long-sought goal of an anytime, instant corporate financial

'X-ray' that reveals the latest details in the company's financial life--without requiring massive new cash outlays for complex systems, consultants, technology installations or maintenance." The application also helps CFOs spot and track anything unusual or suspicious in the books from day to day.

Called Spreadsheet Server, the software is part of a suite of analytical tools from Global Software that "reveals a company's general ledger data--cash, inventory, accounts payable, accounts receivable, return from marketable securities, and more--in the most granular detail instantly on the desktop using an Excel spreadsheet," the company says. Comparable products from big-name competitors don't work with Excel, Global claims, and require expensive and exclusive new systems, significant IT intervention, expensive education and extras.
